Site Rules
Basic Forum OOC Rules:
1. Be respectful to both other members and the staff. Even if somebody is being rude and/or disrespectful to you then you should always take the higher-ground and not respond/treat them how they’re treating you.
2. No excessive swearing, derogatory terms, or bullying. Well, just none at all of the last two things.
3. Keep it clean. This is generally a PG-13 forum. That includes the chat box. If you want to discuss something "adult" then do it off-site.
4. Got a problem? Somebody bullying you and nobody notices? Please PM a mod or admin and tell them the situation, don't make a thread about it. However, if you believe that the person causing trouble is "in" with the mods and has bias on their side then feel free to make a thread. You might also want to PM every single admin/mod the thread in case said biased mod deletes it and bans you(I've had experience with this before =P. The PM to every admin on the forum worked).
5. This isn't really a rule but more of a suggestion. Sure it’s OK to have friends and a group of people you like to roleplay with but don't limit roleplaying to that group. If you only post in threads with your best friends and never with anybody else or you never let random people join your thread then you could be seriously missing out on good roleplay. Not to mention that it could make others feel left out which isn't nice.
6. Never post links to anything that could be considered NSFW (Not Safe For Work) AKA 18+. If we ever see a link like that either on a thread or in the chat box you will get a one week ban from both. Do it again and it’s a permanent ban.
7. Age. There is no minimum age… although I doubt anybody under 13 will be RP’ing and whoever does decide to join and is under 13 is pretty awesome for RP’ing at such a young age. The site does deal with things more on the dark/horror side though. If you believe that you’re mature enough to handle it though then there is no problem. But hey, if you’re mature enough to roleplay on a forum then I’d say you’re mature enough for this RP.
8. Enjoy yourself. If you don't want to do something don't do it. If you’re feeling uncomfortable mention it. This is like the over-used stereotyped "Most importantly, have fun!" rule. However, that rule is around for a reason. Don't RP because you feel you NEED to, RP because you WANT to. If you join a thread though then don’t forget about the other people in it. They want to RP too and if you’re the only other person in the thread then they can’t just skip you and continue the RP. Now, it may seem like I’m contradicting myself here by saying don’t RP if you don’t want to then telling you to do it. It’s just rude though to join a thread then choose to go inactive. So this is more of a “don’t join or start a thread if you don’t want to” rule.
9. Characters. You can currently have up to 2 characters per account. Please always have your display name your character's name – if you have 2 characters on the account then make your display name “character first name/second character first name”. Please include all full character names and bio links in your signature.
10. No spamming of any kind. Unless it’s a forum game because who doesn’t love those? Free and easy way to raise your post count and get out all that spam you know you want to do.
11. Stay on-topic in threads that have a topic. If you’re in a thread about My Little Pony then don’t talk about Star Wars. And vise-versa….but then again everything needs more ponies.
12. Don't harass somebody to reply to your thread or post in it. If you're posting with somebody and you just posted then feel free to let them know in the chatbox if they're online. Do NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT harass them to post. Do not go "are you working on the reply?", "did you post yet?", "when are you going to reply?". It can take time sometimes. You're allowed to remind them twice every 24 hours that you posted(since I've met some people who really do have a bad memory and forget things pretty soon). But, again, seriously, don't harass people to post for you. It's annoying and they don't like it either. It will result in a 2-day ban if it's seen.
13. This is a roleplay for all levels. Do not discriminate against anybody who can not manage long posts or even always spell right. As long as they try their best there is nothing wrong with that. Now, while on the topic of that - there is no word count.
14. The rules may change at any time. When this happens an announcement will be made so you won’t miss any updates.
RP Rules:
1. All roleplaying is done in 3rd person past-tense. What’s third person you may ask?
Third Person past-tense: “Bob was walking down a dark road in the middle of the night when he spotted a zombie on the side of the road which he then proceeded to invite to a tea party but his offer was declined and instead Bob was devoured by the zombie.”
First person would be: "I was walking down the street and saw a zombie on the side of the road. I went up to the zombie and was like 'Yo, bro, how about we go have a swaggin' tea party?'. Then he tried to eat me so I ran away. Then he caught up to me and ate me."
2. Word count. While we don't have a word count it is common courtesy to try to match the post length of whoever you’re replying to. Except for the first post since that’s usually longer due to it being an "opening scene" of sorts where the stage is being set. Keep in mind though that the longer the post, the more the person replying has to work with. Don't write super long posts though all the time either though since you can become easily bored and lose any motivation to reply further. AKA don’t get burnt out. And not everybody is capable of writing a long post. If doing your best results in a 200 word post while the person you’re posting with can easily manage 500 words, don’t feel bad. As long as you do your best and don’t get lazy about it then you’re doing it right.
3. Proper grammar and spelling is important. Before you post an IC reply you should reread it and spell check it. If your browser doesn't have a built-in spell check you can use the built in spell check at the bottom of the posting screen. The button for spell check is in between "Preview" and "Reset"… just in case you didn’t know where it was…
4. No “God Modding”, “Metagaming”, or “Power Playing”. “God Modding” is when you make your character unstoppable/unhittable. “Metagaming” is when your character knows something that they shouldn’t rp-wise. Such as meeting a new character and automatically knowing everything about them. Basically, anything you learn OOC regarding other characters doesn’t carry over to IC. If somebody tells you all about their character in the chatbox that doesn’t mean your character will know about them too. “Power Playing” is when you take control of other peoples characters. An example of Power Playing would be like your character swinging their sword at your opponent and you don’t give them the choice to block or evade it so you decide that it automatically hits them.
5. Adult roleplay. This is anything that can be classified as rated "R" or 18+. Sexual, gory, or just VERY violent. Please keep it off-site. If you don’t then ya’know, somebody gets upset/offended and then reports us then we get taken down and all of that nice stuff. We don’t want that, right? Rightttttt? If you do want that then I may just not like you.
6. OOC in IC threads. Whenever you have something OOC to say in an IC thread then please put "OOC:" before the OOC chat. Also, put it either before or after the main post. (OOC: The first word of RP-Rule 10 is the secret code backwards for your character application) Don’t put it in the middle of your IC post unless it’s to explain something that you think the person you’re posting with may not understand properly.
7. Tags. A tag is something that goes into the title of the thread. If you see a thread called "A New Militia Member (OPEN)" then that means anybody can join. Whenever you make an open thread you should also post OOC inside of it how many people can join. If you see a thread titled "A New Militia Member (CLOSED)" That means you are not allowed to post in it without being told otherwise. CLOSED threads usually have the posters that are going to be active in it decided beforehand. If you see a thread called "A New Militia Member (Ask First)" then go ahead and PM the creator of the thread if you can join. If you want to get into a fight with a random person you could also type “A New Militia Member (Open, fight)”.
8. Death and Injuries. All deaths and serious injuries need permission from the owner of the character before they happen. If you decide to kill off a character then make sure to have the owner of the character send a PM to a mod/admin so that the character can be moved to the graveyard board. And if you ever get bored of a character, just go ahead and kill them off instead of leaving them inactive.
9. NPC's are temporary characters of sorts. Most NPC's are just there to fill in a gap or make it more realistic and what-not. You can name them if you want or give them a bit back story, but don't get too attached. Also, don’t pay more attention to the NPC than other characters. An example of an NPC could be a merchant that you’re buying some fish from or just a crowd of people you’re walking through. Also, don’t take control/rp as NPC’s that another person introduced.
10. Mudkips. This RP is set in a dark time in a fairly depressing place. So, I'm not trying to tell you how to rp, but just act accordingly. Your character isn't going to be attending giant rock concerts, or massive parties, or even find unicorns frolicking around. First off, the first and last thing don't even exist, and the second is incredibly rare and only for the high nobility. I'm not saying your characters can't be happy and have to be depressed all the time - just remember that for now; the whole world is a VERY dark place with death awaiting around every corner practically.
11. Timeline. Every thread you take place in takes place after the last one you were in. Get it? You post in thread "A" then you post in thread "B". Thread B takes place after thread A. If both threads are going on at the same time then you can't talk about things that happen in thread B in thread A. However you can mention what happened in thread A in thread B.
12. No “John Doe” or “Mary Sue” characters. Those are characters that are perfect in every way. They’re usually extremely nice, smart, attractive, and good-at-everything. Everybody has flaws, even fictional characters. Also, no characters that were raised being abused 24/7 their entire life. There is a difference between having a character who was abused growing up and having a character whose whole life is one big sob story. No “abandoned at birth, foster parents abusive, runs away and gets almost killed while running, finds nice family then they get killed and mugged, lives with a dog then the dog dies by falling off a cliff, is now emo” history or anything. Same thing goes for an extremely happy past. No “born into rich family, won the lottery at 12, graduated college at 14, became the owner of world’s biggest company at 14 and a half.” History.
13. This is an anime-styled roleplay. Only anime face-claims will be accepted. No "real" face-claims.
14. Your character can not know every type of magic or spell/thing to do with their magic. If your a fire sorcerer, and you see another fire sorcerer summon some sort of fire elemental then that doesn't mean you know how to and can mimic them. Unless you were a fire sorcerer that could only mimic the spells of others temporarily... hrmm... free character idea right there~ But really, if you're a character who specializes in summoning weapons then that doesn't mean you can go and copy another sorcerer you see that specializes in summoning giant fiery balls of death or something. I'm typing the word "balls" today more than I want to...
Fighting.
Fighting, this “rule” is bigger than the rest so it gets its own little bolded title. Right now, there is no combat system involving stats or anything. Just try to be true to your characters. No matter what though it’s up to the two(or more) combatants to choose who wins(OOC of course). Mind you, even if you agree on whom the winner of a fight will be even before it starts, that still doesn’t mean the soon-to-be-winner can God-Mod or Power-Play(Congratulations if you've read this far! Now, put the secret code in the Nicknames/Aliases section of your character bio. If I don't see it there I'll stop reading your application and deny it!). If you want to have a truly “fair” fight though with rules and all of that then everybody involved in the fight can make/use a combat system as long as everybody agrees on it. Now then, when fighting with or without a combat system you should still follow this advice:
Bad example of combat: “Character1 swings her sword at Character2 and the sword hits Character2 in the arm – severing the nerves so that he can no longer use that arm."
Good example of combat: “Character1 swings her sword at Character2, aiming for his right upper arm. If the sword strikes as planned then Character2’s nerves would be severed and would no longer be able to use that arm."
See what happened? In the “Bad example”, Character1 Power Played. In the “Good example” Character1 played/rp’ed fairly. The “Good example” is how all fighting should be – you attempt to attack your opponent but you leave it up to them to be hit and if hit - how much damage it does. If anybody ever Power Plays your character without your permission then you can tell them to change their post and if they don’t then the Power Played character will win by default and the character who did the Power Playing will receive a warning. If both characters continuously dodge every attack and they didn’t agree on that… well then both characters are getting a warning and the fight will end in a draw.
